From Imperial China to global China - Minutes of the Round Table

From Imperial China to Global China is the title of the first volume that The University of Perugia has published in connection with the occasion of the Seventh Century Anniversary of its foundation.

The volume is a collection of the speeches made by the prestigious guest speakers who participated in the round table discussion promoted by the University, in November of last year, as part of the event, UmbriaLibri 2004. The event was attended by prominent figures from the academic, economic and political worlds, including the Plenipotentiary Minister and the Coordinator of the Italy - China Governing Committee, Dr. Alberto Bradanini.

The topic selected for discussion was characterised by the nature of the current and ever-increasing important role that the great Asian country plays in the economy and culture of the globalised world.
The various speeches embraced a wide variety of themes: from the history of contact between the Western world and the "paese di mezzo" ("the middle country", a nickname that the Chinese coined for their country) to more contemporary and economic themes.

(Perugia, 19 November 2004),
organised by the Committee for the Seventh Century Anniversary Celebrations.
One of the points that all of the speakers retained as central was education and in particular, higher education, confirming the essential role played by the University. In fact, only through a drive and willingness to invest in this specific field will it be possible to "to ride the Asian tiger", opening the universities to various scientific and academic collaborative initiatives, creating opportunities for exchange between two countries with such diverse educational experiences and facilitating reciprocal understanding of one another.
